School Programs

Final Dress Rehearsal Program
This popular program offers the unique opportunity to attend the final dress rehearsal of a Kentucky Opera production. You will receive study guides one month prior to each dress rehearsal to prepare your for what you will see on stage. This program is designed for students from third grade through college. All final dress rehearsals take place at the Brown Theatre and begin at 7pm. There is no late seating. Tickets are $5 and are available through the Kentucky Opera Education Department. This program sells out quickly. Elementary, Middle and High School Students

  • LA TRAVIATA: Wednesday, September 23 at 7pm
    OF MICE AND MEN: Wednesday, October 28 at 7pm
    HANSEL AND GRETEL: Wednesday, November 18 at 7pm

Student Tickets
Opera tickets are always available to students for a flat rate of $20 for any performance with valid student identification. Students are encouraged to download a study guide with information about the opera and are invited to attend the Opera Preview before the performance as well as other activities surrounding the performances.

Fall In-School Tour
Kentucky Opera tours two shows in fall 2009: one for elementary schools and one for middle and high schools. All school tours support elementary, middle and high school core curriculum.

Both shows are presented by Kentucky Opera Studio Artists and introduce K-12 students to the world of opera with a setting in their own school. Study guides are available and include information about the shows and other general opera information, as well as other interdisciplinary subjects, activities and projects. This program is appropriate for any age group and is available September through November 2009. Elementary, Middle and High School Students: $500

  • Opera Soup
    A fun and educational program for elementary students that highlights all the ingredients that go into making an opera.
  • How Opera Works featuring CARMEN
    This program takes middle and high school students through a condensed version of CARMEN while also providing insight and information into how opera is created.

Winter In-School Tour
In January and February 2010, Kentucky Opera tours a special presentation of Oh Freedom! From slavery to modern times, Oh Freedom! celebrates the cultural and musical heritage of African-Americans. A special concert celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday is available on January 17, 2010. In-school performances are available January 19 - February 12, 2010. Distance Learning/Internet2 Initiative
Select education programs are available for both students and adults throughout Kentucky via the Internet2 Initiative. These programs include school tour performances, Opera 101, Composer Workshop and the Owensboro concert performance of MADAMA BUTTERFLY on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 7:30pm.
